Date: March 18, 2021

Outdoor concerts and food vendors return to the Columbia County Amphitheater March 26.

The barbecue series returns for two Fridays followed by the Food Truck Friday series, according to Janet Wheatley, program and events manager for Columbia County Community Services.

“We haven’t done this for a few years. We’ve gotten a lot of requests for it,” she said.

March 26 is Blues, Brews and Barbecue with Atlanta’s Xtreme Party Band bringing the music. The band plays a wide array of songs including “jazz, beach, classic rock, high energy Motown, old/new school hip hop and Today’s Top 40 hits and many more,” according to its website.

Barbecue will be on the main menu with a few other items for sale for those who might not eat it, she said. Each event will have at least two barbecue vendors plus others selling snack fare.

A second barbecue event will be April 16 with country music singer Jared Ashley. That event is called Boots, Brews and BBQ. Ashley is a native of New Mexico who grew up in Georgia listening Ronnie Milsap, Kenny Rogers and Alabama, according to his website. The Navy veteran placed fifth in “Nashville Star” in 2006. He released the song “Stained” in September 2020.

In May, the series picks up with Food Truck Friday, and a different food theme each month.

Jared Ashley will be featured at Boots, Brews and BBQ on April 16 at the Columbia County Amphitheater. Special

Entertainment is still being confirmed for the dates beginning in May, she said.

May 21 will feature Greek food; Mexican is on the menu for June 25; American food is scheduled for July 23; Italian is slated for Aug. 20; and the series winds down with Hawaiian food Sept. 24.

The events will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is free, but there is a charge for food and beverage.

Social distancing is encouraged; masks are optional, she said.

Wheatley said she’s gotten good feedback so far, and she thinks a lot of people are ready to take part in outdoor events.
