Bond was denied Thursday, Dec. 29, for one of the people facing several serious charges in the alleged beating and caging of a woman last month.

At the conclusion of the Richmond County Superior Court bond hearing for Dawson A. Weston, 19, Judge John Flythe denied bond, finding Weston could pose a danger to the community, of committing additional or intimidating witnesses.

Weston was arrested Nov. 29 along with Angelika Figueroa, 29; Shonna Powell, 32; DeMichael Dawson, 24; and Savannah Piazzi, 18, after Richmond County Sheriff’s officers received information that a 20-year-old woman was being victimized and locked in a dog cage at a residence on Nellie Drive.

Powell lived at the residence, and she allegedly told a witness that the victim had stolen from her, according to an earlier report in The Augusta Press. The victim had been severely beaten. The witness said he was told there were people coming to also rape the victim.

Weston has a prior burglary conviction in 2017 and pending charges of theft and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Weston’s attorney asked the judge to consider a reasonable bond for Weston who had been working before his arrest and had plans to enter a welding program.

Powell allegedly killed herself in the Richmond County jail on Dec. 22. The others accused in the case are in jail.

Weston and the others are charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
