A Martinez man wearing khakis and carrying a backpack was caught Saturday night sneaking onto the grounds of Augusta National.
Grayson Beveridge, 26, was captured only after a late-night chase through the golf course that included searches of Raes Creek and the Berkmans Road bridge, according to a sheriff’s report.
The young man was eventually captured, telling deputies that he had nothing better to do on Saturday night. He wore khakis and a Kelly Green shirt.
“Mr. Beveridge stated that the reason he was trying to sneak on the Augusta National property was because he was bored and wanted to have some fun,” the report says.
The “fun” evening started around 11:24 p.m. Saturday when Augusta National Security spotted him on camera in the area of Landscapes Unlimited. Three Richmond County deputies responded to the call and spotted the trespasser, but the suspect ignored their orders to stop and ran toward the Berkmans Road bridge, a report says.

Deputies eventually called off the search, but Security Guard Joel Gil spotted the suspect again running out of the woods. Deputies went after him again and finally captured him on Ingleside Drive. Beveridge was taken to jail for criminal trespass and obstruction.
Beveridge was featured in The Jail Report in 2016 for a DUI, reckless driving and driving without a license.
A LinkedIn page for the suspect also paints him as a golf enthusiast who actually worked in “Trask Pickup” as a teenager at Augusta National during the 2013 Masters. He “was assigned to work a hole and be responsible for cleaning around that area,” his page says.
His online resume says he is a student at Augusta University and has also worked in landscaping for the last five years.
