The national call-to-adopt TV event, the Puppy Bowl, will be shown today as a three-hour event beginning at 2 p.m. on Discovery+ and Animal Planet.

Puppy Bowl celebrates adoptable pups from shelters and rescues across the nation. The event boasts a 100 percent adoption rate for the puppies featured in the event, according to the press release.

A total of 22 shelters and rescues from nine northeastern states join together to provide 70 adoptable puppy players for the Puppy Bowl.

“PAWS Chicago is thrilled to be featured in the show’s ‘Pup Close & Personal’ segment that will follow PAWS alum Foofur in a day in the life of her foster home and highlight the life-saving work of PAWS Chicago’s foster program,” said Julia Poukatch, Manager of Media and Community Relations of PAWS Chicago. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to showcase our foster program, which is critical to our rescue work, providing pets a warm, loving environment to heal, grow and flourish and enables PAWS to increase the number of homeless pets saved. We place more than 3,000 dogs and cats in foster every year. We hope Foofur’s rescue story and foster segment may inspire people to consider fostering.”

Foofur is an outgoing shepherd mix puppy who survived a house fire with her litter mates, added Poukatch. The pup still has burn marks on her belly and has recovered from the deadly-virus parvovirus.

Jett is another puppy featured at the event. He is from Pets With Disabilities located in Frederick, Maryland. Jett will play for team Fluff in the upcoming Puppy Bowl.

“Jett has been a fighter since he was born. He just needed us humans to give him some confidence and guidance in using his new wheelchair,” said Joyce Darrell of Pets With Disabilities. “Like any puppy, he loves to play with toys, play with other pups, and loves his treats, so the Puppy Bowl was right up his alley.”

In addition to the puppy players, Puppy Bowl has announced that puppy cheerleaders will on the sidelines “rooting” for their teams. Midway through the game, a Kitty Half-time Show that will feature a rave-like theme.
