Amber Brantley, the first African-American assistant district attorney in the Columbia County Judicial Circuit, is running for Augusta Circuit district attorney.
Brantley, who began her legal career in Lowndes County, declared her intent to begin fundraising this week in the 2024 contest. Augusta Circuit District Attorney Jared Williams was first elected in 2020.
“After talking to my family, I have decided to take this initial step to raise the resources and build the campaign organization required to pursue one of the highest offices in our Judicial Circuit,” she said in a statement. “I look forward to continuing talks with our community to determine the best way we can meet a new generation of challenges and keep our communities safe.”
Brantley, a Hephzibah resident, worked for the Richmond County Solicitor’s Office prior to joining the Columbia County Circuit when it was formed in 2021.
Brantley is running as a Democrat, so would face off with Williams in the midyear 2024 Democratic primary.
