A request accommodating a proposed liquor store on South Belair Road died after a tied vote among commissioners during Tuesday night’s Columbia County Board of Commissioners meeting. A petition by the property owners to build a 12,000 square foot package store near the Brookwood Townhomes neighborhood stirred opposition among residents, who spoke out against the request when the Planning Commission considered the item on May 3.
The commissioners voted in favor of a rezoning at 840 and 850 Sana Drive, from Townhouse Residential, General Commercial and Single-family Residential to Heavy Commercial to make way for the development of a complex of warehouses, amid opposition from neighbors.

A rezoning request from Residential Agricultural to Special zoning at 7131 Bill Dorn Road was postponed amid contention between the applicant and a neighboring property owner regarding the proposed archery range on the parcel.
A full report on these items will be available in Thursday’s edition.
