Broad Axe Throwing is hosting the CSRA’s first World Axe Throwing League sanctioned tournament on Sunday, Aug. 21.

Axe throwers will not only be competing for a cash prize in the Master of Axes Tournament, but the winner will also be awarded the buffalo plaid jacket.

“We’ve seen a lot of novel trophies, belts and rings given out, but we’re Augusta,” said Vinnie Ingallinera, the owner of Broad Axe Throwing, 1025 Broad St. “We want to carry on that tradition. We wanted to be different though with the buffalo plaid because it is iconic with axe throwing and lumberjacks. It seemed like a good fit.”

Sixty-four participants will compete in the tournament. Ingallinera said anyone can register and compete in the event, but many of the participants will be some of the top throwers in the Atlantic Region.

“When it comes to the official sanction tournaments, the clientele will be normally people who are working on getting circuit points within the axe throwing league,” he said. “The people that have registered so far are pretty high caliber throwers.”

The cash prize pool is $1,000, and the top three individuals will be paid out of that pool. Registration costs $75. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. for registration and warm up. Registration will close at 12:45 p.m., and the tournament will start at 1 p.m.

Broad Axe Throwing is the host site of many leagues, competitions, company and team building events. According to Ingallinera, a fall league will begin on Aug. 23 and continue through Oct. 11.
