The Brunswick Pirates flexed their speed, power, and defense Friday night in a commanding 65-0 victory over the Evans Knights at Blanchard Stadium.
The tone was set early when Brunswick 4-star tight end and Florida Gators commit Heze Kent (6’7, 300 lbs.) made his presence felt on the Pirates’ first offensive snap, hauling in a catch for a first down. The Pirates then marched downfield for a quick touchdown, making it 7-0. On Evans’ first offensive series, things unraveled quickly as Brunswick defensive back Antwan Kirk intercepted quarterback Tripp Fergeison and returned it for a score, doubling the lead to 14-0. Moments later, a disastrous snap on a fourth-and-31 punt attempt resulted in a safety, pushing the margin to 16-0 before the Knights could gain their footing.
By the end of the first quarter, Brunswick had built a commanding 23-0 advantage. Their offensive speed and relentless pressure on defense continued to dictate the game, and by halftime the Pirates were firmly in control at 37-0.
Evans showed brief signs of life in the second half, driving into Brunswick territory, but any momentum was erased when Pirates defensive back Aviyon Addison stepped in front of a pass near his own goal line and raced 94 yards for a touchdown. That backbreaking play stretched the lead to 58-0 by the end of the third quarter. Brunswick added one final touchdown with just over five minutes remaining to cap the scoring at 65-0.
The Knights struggled to sustain drives, hampered by penalties and turnovers, and the home team was outmatched by Brunswick’s athleticism. Evans (1-3) will get a much-needed bye week before hosting South Effingham (1-2) on Friday, Sept. 26.
Brunswick, now 3-1, returns home next week to host Greenbrier (1-2) in another Region 2-6A matchup.
