The Columbia County Republican Party opened its Road to 2026 meet-and-greet series Monday evening, featuring U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter as he launches his campaign for U.S. Senate. The event, hosted at the Special Event Space on 4487 Columbia Road, welcomed voters and members of the local GOP as Carter outlined his case for a Senate run.

Organizers said the goal is to put voters face-to-face with those seeking office rather than relying on campaign ads or filtered messaging.

Carter frames Senate bid around representation and policy direction

Carter, who currently serves as the U.S. representative for Georgia’s 1st congressional district, told attendees he entered the race because he believes Georgia needs a senator aligned with what he described as conservative priorities. He argued that federal decisions on spending, immigration, and healthcare are drifting away from the values of many Georgia voters.

“I’m running for the United States Senate because right now we do not have anyone who represents our values,” Carter said.

Audience questions covered healthcare, education, immigration and congressional authority. Carter said lawmakers must play a stronger role in shaping policy.

“Congress has got to do their job,” he said. “We need to be codifying policy so it doesn’t swing back and forth every administration.”

Carter’s personal background

He also shared elements of his personal background, including growing up in a working-class household and later building a business before entering public office, which is a narrative he says shapes his perspective on economic policy and regulation.

As the event concluded, Carter urged attendees to stay engaged ahead of 2026, telling them the next Senate term will be pivotal for national direction.

“We live in the greatest country in the world, and I believe our best days are ahead of us,” he closed with.

The Columbia County GOP is expected to announce additional candidate meet-and-greets in the coming months.
