The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants, pools or hotels received a failing score from inspections conducted on Sept. 8–12.

Worst scores in this week’s health inspection

This week’s lowest health inspection score was a 73 earned by a Buffalo Wild Wings, located at 120 Robert C Daniel Parkway, in Augusta.

During the inspection, the inspector noticed an inadequate amount of materials at the hand washing sink in the food service area, which resulted in a four-point deduction.

“Observed no paper towels at the to-go hand washing sink in the front food service area,” the report stated. “Ensure all hand washing sinks are fully supplied at all times.”

The inspector also reported finding bacteria buildup in the kitchen, resulting in four points docked from the health score.

“Observed black buildup around multiple drink dispensers. Observed pink buildup inside the bulk ice machine,” the report stated. “Clean all dispensers and the bulk ice machine. Increase cleaning frequency to limit buildup.”

Another nine points were deducted from the health score for the inspector witnessing food being improperly stored.

“Observed [temperature control safety] foods (sliced tomatoes-43F, bleu cheese-49F, salad-50F, and cheese-42F) cold-holding above 41F,” the report stated. “Maintain cold-held [temperature control safety] foods at 41F or below.”

After losing another point for not having a food permit posted in the establishment, the inspector deducted three more points for seeing employees prep food not wearing the correct protective gear.

“Observed an employee not wearing a beard restraint during active food prep,” the report stated. “Employees w/ beards or mustaches 1/2″ or greater must wear a beard restraint during active food prep.”

The establishment lost another point for the inspector observing bacteria buildup throughout the kitchen.

“Observed debris and buildup on the floors throughout the main kitchen,” the report stated. “Clean. Increase cleaning frequency to limit buildup.”

The second lowest score of the week was another 73 given to a Country Inn & Suites, located at 103 Sherwood Drive, in Augusta.

The inspector deducted 16 points for noticing a lack of necessary paperwork on site, including employee illness training/documentation and signed employee illness reporting sheets.

“Establishment does not have established procedures for employees to follow when responding to vomiting or diarrheal events that involve the discharge of vomitus or fecal matter onto surfaces in the food establishment,” the report stated.

During the inspection, the inspector deducted more points for finding food items stored at dangerous temperatures.

“Observed potentially hazardous food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. (Waffle mix, cream cheese in self-serve reach in cooler),” the report stated.

Following the Country Inn & Suites inspection, the third lowest score of the week was an 80 given to a Wedny’s, located at 449 Walton Way, in Augusta.

The inspector deducted four points for noticing a lack of proper employee paperwork on site.

“Observed missing Employee Health Reporting Agreements,” the report stated. “Have all employees read and sign the health reporting agreements. Have forms available at all times.”

During the inspection, the inspector deducted another four points for finding bacteria build up on kitchen appliances.

“Observed pink and black buildup in bulk ice machines and drink machines,” the report stated. “Clean. Increase cleaning frequency.”

Another three points were docked from the establishment’s health inspection score due to the inspector finding food items past their use-by and discard dates.

“Observed corn, corn spread, and cheese held past discard dates in walk-in-cooler,” the report stated. “Discard. Monitor use-by dates and discard when appropriate.”

Three more points were taken from the establishment’s health score for the inspector witnessing an employee prepping food without wearing proper protective gear.

“Observed employee actively preparing food without a beard net, the report stated. “Wear hair and beard nets when beard growth is greater than half an inch.”

In addition to points being docked for missing drain plugs, dumpsters being left open and standing water found throughout the kitchen, the inspector subtracted another three points for observing insect activity in the kitchen.

“Observed several flies throughout kitchen,” the report stated.
