The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing. However, no restaurants, pools or hotels received a failing score from inspections on March 24-28.

Worst scores in this week’s health inspection

This week’s lowest health inspection score was an 80 earned by Charley’s Philly Steaks-Augusta Mall, located at 3450 Wrightsboro Road, Suite 2390, in Augusta.

During the inspection, the inspector noted observing food improperly stored, which resulted in a nine point deduction.

“Observed mushrooms, diced onions, and diced bell peppers cold holding above 41 degrees [Farenheit],” the report stated.

The inspector also noted witnessing broken portions of ceiling, resulting in another point deducted.

“Observed loose/broken ceiling covers where lights are located in back prep area,” the report stated.

The inspector also docked another three points from the establishment’s score for noticing pest activity.

“Observed live cockroach activity on back prep table near meat slicer,” the report stated. “Seek out pest control from certified pest control operator.”

The second lowest score of the week was a score of 84 given to Osaka Hibachi Sushi & Steakhouse, located at 2626 Tobacco Road, in Hephzibah.

The inspector noted observing improperly labeled containers, which resulted in a four-point reduction.

“Observed many containers of food without prep and discard dates,” the report stated.

The inspector also noted seeing no labels on certain containers, which resulted in a loss of three more points.

“Observed no label on foods stored in bulk containers,” the report stated. “Label all foods stored outside of original containers.”

The restaurant was also docked three points for the inspector noticing several containers being stored in an unsafe manner.

“Observed containers of food inside [walk-in-cooler] and [walk-in-freezer] stored on the floor,” the report stated. “Containers with food should be stored at least six inches off the floor.”

Following the Osaka Hibachi Sushi & Steakhouse inspection, the third lowest score of the week was an 86 given to a Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robbins, located at 3024 Washington Road, in Augusta.

Throughout the inspection, the inspector reported observing multiple employee wearing unauthorized accessories, which resulted in a three point reduction.

“Observed employees wearing charm bracelets and watches during food prep,” the report stated. “Refrain from jewelry outside of a plain band ring when conducting food prep.”

The inspector also noticed a lack of proper testing equipment, and deducted another point from the facility’s score.

“Observed no available test strips to test sanitizer buckets. Observed chlorine test strips available but quat is being used in sanitizer buckets,” the report stated. “Obtain appropriate test strips for chosen sanitizer.”
