The Burke County Bears dominated the Hephzibah Rebels on Friday night at the Bear Den, never giving up their lead in a 42-19 win.
Running back Eldrick Williams commanded the field during the first quarter for the Bears. Williams scored the first touchdown of the night on a 1-yard run. Blake Burden’s kick was no good, so the score was 6-0.
Williams scored again before the end of the first quarter on a 38-yard run, then ran for the 2-point conversion to bring the score to 14-0.

To start the second quarter, Burke County’s quarterback Marshall Flowers ran for a 3-yard touchdown. Burden’s kick was no good again, so the score was 20-0.
Hephzibah finally struck with a 35-yard passing touchdown from quarterback Jalen Patrick. But the Rebels failed the 2-point conversion, making the score 20-6.
The Bears answered on a Flowers’ 76-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Golphin. Williams ran for the 2-point conversion and made the score 28-6.
Another Williams touchdown on a 2-yard run, an Ivan Arroyo 39-yard passing touchdown, and two extra points kicked by Burden made the score 42-6 going into the second half.
With less than a minute in the third quarter, Hephzibah drove all the way into the red zone. On the next play, Patrick was the keeper and ran the ball into the end zone. The 2-point conversion was no good, but the Rebels were able to scratch the board again, making the score 42-12 going into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Rebels scored just once more on a 3-yard run touchdown by Patrick. Justice Whitfield kicked for the extra point, and the final score was 42-19.
Flowers completed 4/4 attempts.
Williams rushed for 104 yards on 14 attempts with three touchdowns.
Burke County will travel to Morgan County next Friday, Oct. 29, and Hephzibah will host Harlem.
