A Burke County motorcyclist was killed Sunday, Dec. 4 after wrecking on the overpass near Riverwatch Parkway in Augusta, authorities said.

David Belk, 31, of Sardis, crashed on the overpass while entering westbound Riverwatch Parkway from Greene Street on Sunday afternoon. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:10 p.m., Coroner Mark Bowen said.

No details were released on how the wreck occurred. The fatality blocked one lane and led the sheriff’s office to alert motorists to see alternative routes.

Belk was remembered online by friends and family.

“Motorcycle riding was one of David’s biggest passions and he thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it but was one of the most cautious riders out of his riding group,” said Starla Palmer. “We love you David.”
