Burke County is reporting trees down on houses and power lines after what they believe was a tornado touched down near the Richmond County line.
No injuries have been reported but the suspected tornado left a path of damage in an area from Story Mill Road north across Greiner Circle, Highway 25 and McManus Road to Highway 56 near the Richmond County lines, said Capt. Jimmy Wylds with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office is working with the Burke Emergency Management Agency to clear roads and assess the damage, Wylds said.
The rain was expected to continue through the afternoon with temperatures in the lower 70s. A tornado warning remained in effect in Burke County and multiple South Carolina counties until 2 p.m.
