Sheriff Alfonzo Williams, Burke County.

Date: January 01, 2025

Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams has been awarded a 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award by President Joe Biden.

The awards are for a “lifelong commitment to building a stronger nation through volunteer service,” according to a news release.

Williams’ award and medal were presented by Rep. L.C. Myles and his wife, Sharron Brown, an ambassador to Georgia, in a surprise at the Monday swearing-in ceremony for the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

“This high honor represents my unwavering dedication to our community,” Williams said in the release. “The countless hours of service in Burke County reflect not only our commitment to justice but also my deep love for the people we serve.”

Williams said the award was a “testament to the profound impact we have made as a team, inspiring us all to give back and uplift those around us.”

The Burke sheriff’s law enforcement career spans over three decades, including the last eight years as sheriff. He has served at least 4,000 documented volunteer service hours, a requirement for the award.
