The Magnet Schools of America has named C.T. Walker Magnet School a 2023 National Magnet School of Distinction for the fourth time.

To receive the national award, Magnet Schools of America members first submitted a detailed application, which was then scored by a panel of educators. Applicants were judged and scored based on their overall ability to demonstrate raising student academic achievements, promoting racial and socioeconomic diversity, providing integrated curriculums and instruction, and creating influential family and community partnerships which enhance the school’s magnet theme.

According to a press release from Richmond County School System, C.T. Walker was given the honor of a national magnet school “for its commitment to academic standards, curriculum innovation, diversity efforts, specialized teaching staff, and parent and community involvement.”

The Superintendent Richmond County Schools Kenneth Bradshaw said he is honored to work with the extraordinary staff C.T. Walker, because of their impressive efforts to prioritize student success and achievement.

“The students and staff of C.T. Walker Magnet Elementary are to be commended for their pursuit of excellence to promote a learning environment where students can grow into confident, lifelong learners and leaders,” he said.

Principal of C.T. Walker Magnet Elementary Emile Sharif said she was incredibly proud and thrilled that the school received the honorary title, because it reflected the school’s amazing staff, students and families.

“We strive for excellence in every way here at C.T. Walker Magnet Elementary, so to be recognized by the prestigious institution of Magnet Schools of America for being the only Georgia school to receive the 2023 Magnet School of Distinction Award, reaffirms the hard work and dedication our faculty and staff display daily for the success of all of our students,” she said.

In addition to this year’s award, C.T. Walker has also received the distinction in 2018, 2020 and 2022.

Nakita Johnson, assistant principal of C.T. Walker Magnet Elementary School, will receive the award on behalf of the school at the Magnet Schools of America’s 40th National Conference.
