Cabela’s seeking expansion, contractor looks to rezone Hereford Farm Road property

Date: October 18, 2022

Sporting goods retailer Cabela’s is seeking to expand at its Augusta Village at Riverwatch location. Richmond County Planning and Zoning is currently reviewing a development project submitted by the outdoor goods chain for 833 Cabela Dr. on Sept. 29.

As of this article, the county has more than 30 days to complete its evaluation of the expansion of the 42,000 square foot building, which entails an area for some 17 new rear parking spaces, which Planning and Zoning insists be broken up by a tree planter island.

Cabela’s, owned by Missouri-based retail company Bass Pro Shops, opened in Augusta in March of 2014, buying the lot from developer Augusta Village at Riverwatch in 2017.

In Columbia County, dry wall company Sprach Enterprises is seeking to rezone a property at 5520 Hereford Farm Rd. from single-family residential to special. The contractor petitioned the county, alongside landowner Okkyong Zabrdac, aiming to set up space for up to six employees on the seven-acre parcel.

One 2,700 square foot building on the property to be refurbished as office space, and another, 2,400 square foot warehouse would store material such as drywall, ceiling tiles and specialty metal.

The plans for the site also entail widening the driveway entrance to Hereford Farm Road, fencing and a natural buffer around the area, a laydown yard and a detention basin.

The business looks to restore the buildings for its use early next year, if the commissioners vote to rezone. The Columbia County Planning Commission is scheduled to vote on the request in a public hearing on Nov. 3
