  • The Richmond County Board of Education Comprehensive Facilities Master Plan Task Force will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Richmond County Board of Education office.

Thursday, Jan. 11

  • Columbia County Fire Rescue will hold a hiring fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fire Headquarters, 3910 Desoto Drive, Martinez, Ga. If you are interested in learning more about a career with Fire Rescue, this is an opportunity to meet team members and ask questions about training, job duties, and career advancement. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office will also have a booth set up to talk about career opportunities in the sheriff’s office.
  • The 14th Annual Jimmie Dyess Symposium will be held at 5 p.m. at the Augusta History Museum. The symposium was created and developed to recognize Marine Lieutenant Colonel Jimmie. The symposium will include talks by several distinguished individuals. Honorees for 2024 are local community leaders, Clint Bryant & Nancy Hussey.

  • Augusta Technical College, Augusta University, and Paine College will hold the 2024 Tri-College program honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  at noon in the 12th in the Jack B. Patrick Information Technology Center on the Augusta Technical College Augusta Campus. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Otis S. Johnson, Chair of the Racial Equity and Leadership (REAL) Task Force appointed in 2020 by Savannah, Georgia Mayor Van R. To celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Augusta, Georgia has teamed up with the Augusta Branch of the NAACP to host the 2024 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade.   • The Jewish Community will host Perspectives on Hate: A program that examines the impact of hate, bigotry, antisemitism, and racism on present day society.  The program will begin at 1 pm in the Linda Beazley Room at the Richmond County Municipal Building, 535 Telfair Street. The event is being cosponsored by the Augusta Jewish Museum and the Jewish Community Center and Federation of Augusta (JCCFA).

Tuesday, Jan. 16

  • The Richmond County Board of Education will have its committee and regular board meeting. The committee meeting will start at 4 p.m. and the regular board will immediately follow the committee meeting. The meetings will take place at the Richmond County Board of Education Board Room Auditorium on the 1st flood at 864 Broad St. 
  • The Augusta Richmond County Commission will meet at 2:00 p.m. in the commission chamber located on the second floor of the Municipal Building.
