In light of the recent hurricane storm damage that has left many neighborhoods unable to host traditional trick-or-treating this year, the annual Trick or Treat on Broad Street event is anticipating a record-breaking turnout.
Trick or Treat on Broad is hosted by Support Downtown Augusta, an organization created by Claire Riche who said around 1,000 children and their families attended last year.
“We’re expecting to have way more this year, just because of the storm damage,” she said.
Support Downtown Augusta is urging the community to support the event in its fifth year by donating candy to ensure there’s enough to go around. Candy donations can be dropped off at the Book Tavern located at 978 Broad St.
“Candy donations are a big deal this year, just because we are expecting so many extra kids. Normally, we just accept the larger donations from sponsors but [this year] even just one bag helps,” said Riche.
The event will take place on Oct. 26 from 5-7 p.m. and is open to children age 12 and under.
Storm relief efforts
Mod Ink Tees, a screen printing shop downtown, is not only participating as a candy stop but has also created event merchandise, the proceeds of which will benefit hurricane relief efforts.
This merchandise can be purchased during the event.

As of Oct. 19, over 40 businesses have signed up to participate in Trick or Treat on Broad Street, from Redemption Church to Garden City Social. The full list of participants is still growing, but a comprehensive map will be available on the night of the event through QR codes which will be posted around downtown. An incomplete list of participants is available on Support Downtown Augusta’s Facebook page.
All participating locations will be between 9th and 12th streets.
