Candidates file to run for upcoming Grovetown, Harlem elections

Monday was the first day of qualifying for the upcoming elections in the cities of Grovetown and Harlem, and both elections had candidates file to run.

The city of Grovetown has two council seats and the mayor seat up for election. As of Monday, Aug. 21, incumbent Gary Jones, former council member Deborah Fisher and current council member Ceretta Smith all filed to run for mayor, according to Brian Henderson, city clerk. Fisher recently stepped down from her position on the city council so she could run for mayor. Another election will have to be held at a later date to fill her spot. For the city council seat, council member Eric W. Blair, Marsha Keating and Richard Bowman all filed to run.

Qualifying for the City of Grovetown election continues Aug. 22-24 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Grovetown City Hall.

Harlem has two seats up for election, and according to the City of Harlem website, those are currently occupied by Gregg Stokes and Al Reeves. As of Monday, Aug. 21, Stokes has filed to run, according to Harlem City Manager Debra Moore. Reeves filed to run on Tuesday, Aug. 22.

Qualifying for the City of Harlem election continues Aug. 22-23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Harlem City Hall.
