A new face is emerging in the November race for Burke County Sheriff.
Brad “Cap” Capitosti, a veteran law enforcement professional, is stepping up to challenge the incumbent, Democrat Sheriff Alfonzo Williams.

With a name that might require a bit of effort to write in on the ballot, Capitosti is nonetheless confident that voters will embrace the chance to support a fresh perspective in local law enforcement. Lewis Blanchard, the previous Republican candidate, announced that he has dropped out of the race.
Capitosti, known to friends and colleagues as “Cap,” has deep roots in the CSRA. His journey in law enforcement began over a decade ago, where he quickly made a name for himself as one of the first members of the Richmond County Gang Unit. His work led him to roles in narcotics investigations in both Richmond and Burke counties, where he collaborated closely with the DEA on federal operations. His tenure with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office as an investigative sergeant allowed him to work alongside a team to tackle criminal investigations, contributing significantly to efforts to improve the county’s safety and cleanliness, according to a campaign press release.
Capitosti lives in Waynesboro with his wife, Amy, and their two children, Savana and Tyler. He also co-owns Augusta Land Management, LLC with his brother, a business that supports U.S. Army installations across several states.

Sheriff Williams reacted to the announcement of a new challenger, saying his campaign is always open to those who exercise their right to be involved in the democratic processes of government.
“I am saddened to see that he would be a puppet for Blanchard and [former Sheriff Gregory ] Coursey. It is puzzling to see that they would go to such lengths to make this campaign all about their own interests versus the people,” Sheriff Williams said.
The incumbent sheriff said he and his team have a seven-year record they are proud to stand on. He said he plans to serve selflessly. “We want all of Burke County to know that they can trust us. And they can trust our product,” the sheriff said.
Capitosti’s vision for the Burke County Sheriff’s Office is clear. On his campaign website, he outlines his commitment to fostering an organization grounded in integrity and transparency.
“As Sheriff, I will foster an organization of officers that has integrity, morale, and values that are readily apparent to the citizens it serves,” he asserts.
He emphasizes the need for law enforcement to be equipped to meet the evolving needs of society while maintaining a positive, approachable presence in the community. Additionally, he pledges a high level of budget accountability and transparency, ensuring that Burke County’s citizens are fully informed about how their resources are being utilized.
