Car Chase Ends With Man Jumping Into Augusta Canal

K-9 units have been called in to find a suspect that jumped off of the I:20 bridge around 6pm today after being pursued by a Columbia County Sheriff’s deputy. The trail has since gone cold. The suspect was pulled over for a traffic stop on Pleasant Home Rd and continued onto Davis Rd into Richmond County.

While in pursuit, the suspect hit a traffic pole at Walton Way Ext. at the I:20 eastbound ramp. The suspect was later seen swimming under the overpass after jumping into the Augusta Canal.

The suspect is a white male, mid-to-late 30 ‘s, and approximately 6ft tall.

Anyone with information should contact law enforcement immediately.

A police car chase starting at Pleasant Home and Davis Roads, ended with one person apparently jumping off the I-20 bridge into the Augusta Canal.

Both Richmond and Columbia Counties are investigating Both Columbia and Richmond County Sheriff’s Offices have confirmed they are on the scene of the incident.
