As Columbia County School District prepares to welcome back employees on Tuesday, Oct. 8, the district has provided an update as to what will happen this week.
The district stated that student who are able to, will return to school on Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10. There is no school scheduled for Friday, Oct. 11 due to a previously planned Professional Learning Day. There will be no school on Monday, Oct. 14 due to the Columbus Day holiday.
The district provided the following updates for student services, nutrition services, transportation, facilities, technology and communications/resources. This included reiterating that students will not face any penalties if they are unable to attend school on Oct. 9 and Oct. 10.
Student services
- The PSAT for 10th grade students has been moved to Tuesday, Oct. 22.
- The SAT, originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5, has been moved to Saturday, Oct. 19, at Lakeside High School and Harlem High School.
- Report cards will be available on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
Nutrition Services
- Breakfast and lunch will be provided to all students at no cost on Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10.
- The revised menu for the week can be found at our website at www.ccboe.net/hurricane.
Transportation
Drivers are checking routes and some changes may need to be made due to lane closures and other issues that might come up.
- Depot stops are still being determined as drivers continue to assess and practice routes.
- Parents can to find the student’s pickup and drop off location information via the Edulog Parent Portal Lite school bus tracker app. Those without power or internet connection may contact the CCSD Department of Transportation at 706-541-2729.
- The CCSD Transportation team and school staff will work to connect with parents of students whose pickup locations have been changed to a shuttle stop. If a student misses their pickup time, contact the Department of Transportation at 706-541-2729, and the district will send a driver to pick up the student.
- If a student is displaced due to the storm and not living at their normal address or cannot be picked up at home, parents need to provide the student with a handwritten note to ride a different school bus in the vicinity of the location of the temporary location. Additional documentation will be needed if the change will remain in effect after this week. Contact the CCSD Department of Transportation for the proper form at 706-541-2729.
Facilities update
- Before and after school care will be available.
- Brookwood Elementary School and Blue Ridge Elementary School have had power restored.
- A planned statewide fire drill at the schools has tentatively been rescheduled to a later date to be determined.
Technology
- Connectivity and internet are available at all of the schools.
- As utility companies continue efforts to restore power grid, there is a chance for intermittent outages over the next few days and weeks.
Communication/resources
- A CCSD Hurricane Response webpage has been created to house information. It can be found at www.ccboe.net/hurricane.
- Information will include all communication from the district from before and after the storm, as well as the daily updates.
- There will also be informational resources for families who may be in need as a result of the hurricane.
