CCSO: Armed driver accuses man of sleeping with his wife, leading to gunfire & wreck

Kenneth McCoy

Date: March 30, 2025

A 32-year-old man, Kenneth McCoy, was arrested Saturday after a tense confrontation early Wednesday that ended in gunfire and the victim running his vehicle into a retention pond in Columbia County.

The incident began Tuesday night when the victim, who had just left work at Fort Eisenhower, was driving home on Gordon Highway. A truck pulled up beside him, honking and flashing its lights.

The driver, later identified as McCoy, accused the victim of “sleeping with his wife.” The victim denied the accusation, telling McCoy he had the wrong guy and didn’t know his wife. Despite this, McCoy continued to follow him, demanding answers.

To escape, the victim drove away, swerving over a median and onto Parham Road. He parked in a lot, but McCoy approached, pointed a gun, and repeated his accusation. Fearing for his life, the victim fled, lost control of his car, and got stuck in a retention pond. As he attempted to run, he heard a gunshot before hiding in the woods until McCoy left.

The victim’s SUV was later recovered, and a spent shell casing was found at the scene. McCoy was arrested after the investigation. A warrant says McCoy “fired  one round from a .45-calibr handgun, striking the rear of a black Ford Explorer occupied by (the victim), causing him to run up over a curb, down an embankment before coming to a stop in a retention pond.”
