The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants, pools or hotels received a failing score from inspections on July 28–Aug. 1.
Worst scores in this week’s health inspection
This week’s lowest health inspection score was a 73 earned by a Popeye’s, located at 413 South Belair Road, in Martinez.
During the inspection, the inspector noted a lack of managerial contact sanitization, which resulted in a four-point deduction.
“Observed CFSM lacking managerial control over food contact sanitization, cold holding, cooling, and TPHC CA,” the report stated.
The inspector also reported finding old and unclean food, resulting in another four-point reduction to the health score.
The infraction involved surfaces crusted with old food and grease.
Observed several food contact surfaces unclean and soiled with food debris, mold, old food, etc.,” the report stated. “Every food contact surface in establishment must be cleaned to sight and touch”
Another nine points were deducted from the health score, for the inspector noticing food improperly stored.
“Observed foods in small prep cooler (cheese, sauce, mayo) 55-62 Farenheit,” the report stated.
Another nine points were taken from the health score for the restaurant having food unlabeled.
“Observed no time/date stamp on hot foods utilizing TPHC. Food items must be dated and timed,” the report stated.
The establishment was also penalized for a multitude of infractions including blood found on the floor, trash under shelves in dry storage, cell phones being used while food prepping, and cracked containers and lids.
The second lowest score of the week was a 76 given to Augusta Marriott Hotel & Suites Pool, located at 3 Ninth Street, in Augusta.
The inspector deducted 15 points for noticing an inoperable pool phone.
“Repair phone (not dialing),” the report stated.
During the inspection, the inspector deducted another 15 points for an improper pH balance, above 8.
For noticing a sign in need of repainting, the establishment lost more points.
“Repaint “No Diving” on deck (advise tiles before next year),” the report stated.
Following the Augusta Marriott Hotel inspection, the third lowest score of the week was another 76 given to an El Paso Tacos & Tequila, located at 1167 Broad Street, in Augusta.
The inspector deducted nine points for noticing damaged goods.
“Observed several dented cans stored in main kitchen,” the report stated.
During the inspection, the inspector deducted another nine points for noticing food being improperly stored.
“Observed fish stored next to raw chicken and raw steak on rack in walk-in-cooler. Observed lettuce stored next to raw beef on rack in walk-in-cooler,” the report stated. “Store raw animal foods based on minimum cook temperatures.”
Another two points were docked from the establishment’s health inspection score due to bug activity.
“Observed several flies throughout establishment,” the report stated. “Find an appropriate method to deter flies. Consult with a licensed pest control.”
After observing more food stored improperly, the establishment’s health inspection score lost a total of six points.
“Observed cooked rice stored on prep table cooling at room temperature,” the report stated. “… observed ground beef thawing at room temperature on prep table.”
