Child, 3, injured after shooting outside Tacocat in Downtown Augusta

Date: November 16, 2025

A 3-year-old child was wounded in a shooting early Sunday in downtown Augusta, according to Lt. James Kelly of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Lt. Kelly said deputies assigned to the downtown proactive patrol heard several gunshots around 2:28 a.m. in the area of 10th Street between Broad and Ellis streets. When they arrived, they saw several people running and detained three individuals near the scene.

A short time later, deputies found a complainant at 9th and Greene streets with a 3-year-old who had an apparent gunshot wound. The child was taken to Wellstar for treatment. No information about the child’s condition was immediately released.

According to Lt. Kelly, investigators believe two groups were involved in an altercation in the 200 block of 10th Street, in front of Tacocat, when gunfire broke out. Deputies’ quick response allowed them to detain several people who may have been involved, he said.

Investigators are interviewing the three detained individuals as well as the child’s mother. The case remains active, and no additional details were available Sunday.
