Child dies after crash at Peach Orchard & Tobacco roads

An 8-year-old Hephzibah boy has died following a two-vehicle crash that occurred Monday afternoon at the intersection of Peach Orchard Road and Tobacco Road in Augusta, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene at approximately 1:04 p.m. and found a serious collision involving two vehicles, Sgt. Caleb Lee confirmed. One vehicle, carrying two adults and one child, was traveling southbound on Peach Orchard Road toward Tobacco Road. The second vehicle, driven by a single adult, was heading northbound on Peach Orchard Road and attempting a left turn at the intersection when the crash happened.

All three occupants of the first vehicle were transported to a hospital for treatment. The child later succumbed to their injuries at 2:50 p.m. Monday. He was identified as Camden Poole, who turned 8 on Monday, Coroner Mark Bowen confirmed.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is actively investigating the incident. No further details have been released at this time.
