Child Enrichment plans to break ground on its new campus during Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The groundbreaking at 2300 Walden Drive will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, according to a news release.

The event includes a brief ceremony, and attendees will place pinwheels representing the 1,066 served by Child Enrichment last year to recognize April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. The featured speaker will be Judge Amanda Heath, former CASA volunteer, Juvenile Court judge, Child Enrichment board president, and long-time Child Enrichment supporter.

A 16,235 sq. ft. facility that will allow the organization to see more clients in a shorter time frame, decrease wait times for forensic interviews, allow on-site medical exams and train enough CASA volunteers to provide an advocate for every child in foster care in our community, according to its website.

Child Enrichment was established in 1977 and provides a voice and a path forward for local children who have experienced abuse, neglect, and trafficking, unlike any other non-profit in the CSRA, according to a news release from Child Enrichment.

Trained volunteers and staff provide a “children-first approach,” the news release said, and free-of-charge services and resources for local children and families. There are two nationally and state-accredited programs under the Child Enrichment umbrella that serve the children and families in Richmond, Columbia, Burke, McDuffie, Warren, Wilkes, Lincoln, Glascock and Taliaferro counties, including Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and the Child Advocacy Center (CAC). The agency also provides prevention & awareness services within the community.

The organization has raised 70% of its $6.5 million capital campaign, and $2.4 million in donations are needed to complete the campaign, the news release said.

Child Enrichment has partnered with architects Johnson Laschober and Associates, Kuhlke Construction, and Queensborough Community Bank & Trust on the project.

The community is invited to attend Child Enrichment’s exciting groundbreaking and have the opportunity to learn more about the new building.
