Jerry Wisdom

Date: March 31, 2023

A child molestation suspect died Thursday night while awaiting trial in the Columbia County Detention Center.

No foul play is suspected in the death of 55-year-old Jerry Wisdom, sheriff’s Maj. Steve Morris said in a press release.

Wisdom had been held at the jail since October 20, 2022 on the charges of aggravated child molestation and two counts of felony child molestation with a $100,000 bond.

“Shortly after 8pm Wisdom was found unresponsive in his cell,” Maj. Morris said. “Deputies administered CPR until EMS and Fire Rescue arrived. Wisdom was later pronounced dead by Coroner’s Office.”

Based on a preliminary investigation, no foul play was suspected and Wisdom will be sent to the GBI for an autopsy.

In a 2019 sheriff’s report against Wisdom for domestic violence, his mother told deputies that he had a drinking problem and a long list of mental health problems.
