It’s a day of pampering to help teenage girls feel special.
The Augusta Dream Center’s Cinderella Day will be March 13.
“There’s so much negativity in the way young girls feel about themselves,” said Alison Brace, who coordinates the annual event. “This is a way to make them feel loved.”
At the all-day event, high school girls can pick out their own formal dress, a pair of shoes and two accessories, enjoy a mini makeover with an updo and makeup, a lunch, and a purple carpet experience with photographs.

This year’s event will be socially distanced as the volunteers will endeavor to make it as safe as possible.
A lot of the events will be outside the Peach Orchard Road location. A disc jockey will play music, and there will be games. The makeovers will be done outside as well.
Inside the center, the girls will choose from the dresses and a wide selection of shoes.
“In our shoe area, we have more than 500 pairs of shoes,” said Brace, who also oversees the clothes closet operated through the Augusta Dream Center.

One request she often gets during Cinderella Day is for sparkly flats or even sneakers. She watches for those during the year and sets them aside for this event.
A highlight of the event is a walk down a purple carpet and photographs. A luncheon is also included.
Brace said they will be taking donations of formal gowns through March 5 or 6. There are several drop-off locations. Some are open on Saturdays while others are not. Drop off locations include the Augusta Dream Center, Stevens Creek Church, 600 Stevens Creek Rd.; WAFJ, 102 LeCompte Ave., North Augusta; Dunagan’s Sewing and Vacuum, 1536 Whiskey Rd., Aiken; Trendz Salon, 3670 Riverwatch Parkway; Elegant Bridal, 32245 Riverwatch Parkway; Endurance Fitness, 125 Merovan Dr., North Augusta; and SecurCare Self-Storage, 3700 Washington Rd.
Brace said there’s always a need for plus-sized dresses.
Many girls are hesitant to participate because they are afraid there won’t be dresses in their size, she said.
High school girls can also still sign up for the event at cinderelladay.com.
The Augusta Dream Center is a faith-based organization in south Augusta serving low-income, homeless and under-served individuals and families. Services include a food pantry and clothes closet as well as special events such as the Cinderella Day.
