City concludes final phase of hurricane debris removal

Date: July 01, 2025

As of June 30, the city of Augusta has officially concluded the coordinated debris removal phase related to Hurricane Helene, which impacted our region in September 2024.

This milestone marks the completion of FEMA-supported Category A and B debris removal efforts across public roadways, rights-of-way, and other storm-affected locations.

Since operations began, teams have worked across the city to remove approximately 3,438,219 tons of storm-related debris from public roadways, rights-of-way, and other storm-affected locations.

“Although the federally supported curbside debris collection phase has now ended, residents may still observe ongoing recovery work in select areas, including stump removals and site restoration, as part of the City’s continuing long-term recovery efforts,” a City of Augusta press release stated.

Residents exploring options for debris disposal may contact the Augusta Landfill at 706-592-3200  to confirm accepted materials and operational details.
