Lead Hazard Reduction Program Underway

A lead hazard reduction program is underway in Richmond County.

Launched earlier this month, the new initiative is designed to protect Richmond County families from lead-based paint and home health hazards. The city’s new Lead Hazard Reduction Program aims to identify and clean up dangerous lead-related health and safety hazards in specific housing units built before 1978.

The types of housing covered in the program include housing units in the Richmond County area, owner-occupied, landlord/property owners, single-family units and multi-family units. Women who are pregnant or individuals who have children under the age of six living in one of the housing units listed above may also qualify.

Applications for the program are available in the following ways by calling the city of Augusta’s Housing & Community Development Department at (706) 821-1797 or Georgia Department of Public Health at (706) 667-4329 or online at the City of Augusta’s Housing & Community Development Department website at augustaga.gov/68/housing-development or visit the Georgia Department of Public Health site at ecphd.com/lead.
