Lead Hazard Reduction Program to begin Jan. 31

The City of Augusta is kicking off a new initiative to protect Richmond County families from lead-based paint and home health hazards. Starting Jan. 31, the city will make available its new Lead Hazard Reduction Program to identify and clean up dangerous lead-related health and safety hazards in specific housing units. The types of housing covered in the program include owner-occupied, landlord/property owners, single-family units or multi-family units.

This program is coordinated by the City of Augusta in partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Georgia Department of Public Health, and the Augusta Partnership for Children, Inc.

Applications for the program will be available on Jan. 31, and residents can call (706) 821-1797 or (706) 667-4329 for more information.

Vax Up, Augusta! ends Jan. 31

The City of Augusta’s Vax Up, Augusta! program is set to end Jan. 31

The incentive program allows Richmond County residents who receive their first or second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at a city-authorized clinic to qualify for a $100 incentive.

Authorized clinic locations are Medical Associates Plus, 2467 Golden Camp Rd. and Christ Community Health, 127 Telfair St.  Only the Moderna vaccine will be provided at these locations, and vaccinations for children will not be offered at these clinics.

City of Augusta to host inaugural resource fair

The City of Augusta is hosting its first community resource fair for the area’s homeless to increase engagement with local health providers and find housing pathways.

The City’s Bridge the Gap- Community Resource Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 11, at The Salvation Army Center of Hope, 1384 Greene St.

Attendees will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of community services, including vaccinations, grooming and hygiene stations and other resources.

This event is sponsored by the City of Augusta, the United States Housing and Urban Development, the Georgia Department of Public Health, Medical Associates Plus, Murphy Auto Group, Target, AdMax Advertising, Inc., The Salvation Army, the Richmond County Marshal’s Office, Augusta-Richmond County Emergency Management, and the City of Augusta’s Human Resources Department, Parks and Recreation Department and Housing and Community Development.
