Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson proclaimed May 10 Sylvia Cooper Rogers Day in the city for her many contributions during her career in journalism.
Johnson was out of town on May 10 and could not present the proclamation personally, but he delivered the plaque to the Augusta Press office, and the presentation was made during a staff lunch.
Cooper said she was both surprised and flattered by the proclamation. She added she is enjoying her retirement, especially the fact that she can skip Richmond County Commission meetings now.
