Coffee shop proposed for south Augusta; restaurant, retail could head to Martinez

National coffee shop chain 7 Brew is looking to open a location in south Augusta.

On June 21, the Fayetteville, Ark.-based café franchise submitted a site plan to Augusta-Richmond County Planning for a new shop at 2915 Peach Orchard Rd.

7 Brew specializes in smaller, drive-thru restaurants selling coffee, specialty flavored sodas, smoothies and other drinks. It has about 20 locations, most of them concentrated in Arkansas, with sites in nearby states including Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. Its closest location to the Augusta area is in Greenville, S.C.

The project is currently under review by city planning and development. The Trees and Landscape department has already required that the plans be resubmitted with revisions to include a 20-foot tree buffer, shrubs, a board fence and a large tree in one of its grass areas.

In Columbia County, Pranav Patel of Evans Development, LLC has submitted a rezoning request to change a 2.96-acre parcel along Furys Ferry Road from R2 single-family residential to CC community commercial.

Patel aims to develop the property, owned by David Maner, with a 3,000 square foot restaurant space with a drive-thru, and two retail store spaces at 2,500 and 9,200 square feet respectively, along with parking and infrastructure improvements.

Grovetown-based Columbia Concrete Company submitted a request to Columbia County Planning, also on June 21, to rezone an approximately 17-acre property at 3448 Gordon Hwy. from residential agricultural to special district.

Company president Rhonda Kaczmarek explains in a document accompanying the rezoning application that Columbia Concrete has a mobile concrete plant located on Fort Gordon used to provide concrete for the Cyber Command Building.

“With our initial project being complete, Fort Gordon has said that it is time to move the plant off the base,” said Kaczmarek in the document. She goes on to note that the company intends to use 8.8-acres of the property, located in Grovetown, transferring most of the equipment that comprises the mobile concrete plant alongside proposed newly-constructed storage bins.

Evans Development’s proposed retail space and Columbia Concrete’s proposed new location are both scheduled to go before the Planning Commission on July 21, and then before the Board of Commissioners on Aug. 2.
