Two Richmond County schools have received the College Board’s AP Computer Diversity Award for 2020.
The award recognizes the schools for their large numbers of female students taking advanced placement computer courses.
Schools that receive the female diversity award have 50 percent or more females among those who take the AP computer exam for two AP computer science courses or whose number of female test takers meets or exceeds the number of female students enrolled at the school.

“We are delighted to be recognized by the College Board for our efforts to have more female students participate in advanced computer science classes,” says Dr. Marquez Hall, Laney High School principal.
Hall added that receiving the award is evidence of the commitment teachers and counselors “to identify and support our female students as they realize their capabilities in computer science courses”
The Alliance for Cyber Education (ACE) subcommittee of the CSRA Alliance is a local partner in encouraging all students to consider careers in cybersecurity and computer science.
ACE Subcommittee Chair Karyn Nixon says, “This recognition from the College Board for two of our local schools is encouraging as we develop programs and add resources to ensure barriers are removed from a student’s potential to build the future they desire.”
