Colleges in Georgia are waiving application fees this month

Colleges in Georgia, including Augusta University and Augusta Technical College, are accepting applications at no-cost this month.

Date: November 19, 2024

November is Georgia Apply to College Month, and the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) is promoting No Fee November, a month-long period in which many post-secondary institutions statewide are waiving college application fees.

Saving application costs

Typical college application fees range from $45 to $80 dollars depending on the school, and Columbia County School District Superintendent Dr. Steven Flynt said at a recent board of education meeting that students should not to miss the chance to apply for free.

“We recommend everybody take advantage of this, especially if you’re applying to a number of schools,” said Flynt. “Because they can get pretty expensive if you have a lot of applications going out.”

Local institutions in Georgia with confirmed waived application fees this month include Augusta Technical College and Augusta University.

There is no information available currently about Paine College and waived application fees.

The Georgia Futures website includes Instructions for redeeming the no application fee for each participating college, along with a full list of Georgia colleges participating in No Fee November.

Some local schools may also have no fees year-round, including Aiken Technical College (ATC).

“We do not have an application fee, which removes a barrier some may face when starting their higher education journey,” said ATC President of Enrollment Management, Melinda Rodgers. “Having no application fee also aligns with our efforts to provide affordable and accessible education to area residents.”

Matching with colleges

Beginning in October, the GSFC sent every high school senior in Georgia a letter with matches to in-state high education institutes whose admissions requirements the student had met based on their 11th grade Hope GPA

GEORGIA MATCH is an initiative started by Governor Brian Kemp.

Students can find an electronic copy of their MATCH letter online

Upcoming college and career events

On March 6, students will have the opportunity to participate in an annual Career and College Expo at the Columbia County Exhibition Center in partnership with the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce. Here, students will be able to interact with local businesses and universities from Southeastern Georgia to explore the paths that are open to them after high school.
