Several Colton Ballet Co. alums are returning to the Imperial Theatre stage for “You’re Always On My Mind” April 22.
Lily Do is getting a second chance to perform a piece she was originally supposed to dance her senior year of high school.
In 2020, Do was preparing to graduate from John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School when COVID-19 hit, cancelling her performance.

Do said she’s excited for the chance to perform at Colton again.
Now a college student in Atlanta, she teaches dance to younger students, but it’s been tough to get her own dance classes in.
“You’re Always on My Mind” features multiple repertory works including a set of dances with Do choreographed by Caitlin McCormack Phibbs, a Charleston resident who grew up in Augusta as part of Colton’s school and company.

Phibbs has created two solos — one for Do and another for Justin Reeves, formerly with Colton Ballet Co. and the Atlanta Ballet Co. — plus a duet for Do and Reeves. The works are to songs by Billie Holiday and Sam Cooke.

Zanne Colton said it’s been beautiful to watch Do and Reeves partner. Despite a dramatic height difference between the two, Phibbs has made their movements look seamless.
Phibbs’ choreography is just one portion of the program.
“From the playful, evocative music of Erik Satie to the haunting beauty of Rachmaninoff’s ‘Vocalise’ to the joyful fun of the Beatles, dance and music lovers will delight in this eclectic program,” according to a news release from Colton Ballet.

Other works in the production include “Okara,” “Last Hurrah” and ‘Satiescape’ choreographed by Andrew Kuharsky to the music by Erik Satie.
And there will be a Momix-inspired segment.
“Audience goers will also thrill to the gravity defying work using a large see saw to propel the dancers into the air,” the news release said.
