Starting in 2024, Columbia County’s Patriots Park, Lonnie Morris Park and Riverside Park tennis courts are scheduled to be temporarily closed for a much-anticipated renovation and resurfacing.
“The renovation project aims to elevate the overall tennis experience for players of all skill levels and provide a state-of-the-art facility for the community to enjoy,” stated a press release from Columbia County Parks, Recreation & Events.
For approximately 120 days, starting Tuesday, Jan. 2, the Patriots Park tennis courts will undergo a comprehensive transformation, including resurfacing of all tennis courts and endeavoring to enhance the overall aesthetics of the facility.
These enhancements for Patriots Park – which is located in Grovetown at 5445 Columbia Road – are part of Columbia County’s ongoing commitment to creating an “inclusive and exceptional tennis environment” that meets the evolving needs of the community, according to a press release from the county.
During the closure, the county is encouraging local tennis enthusiasts to utilize other nearby community park locations and tennis facilities.
The Patriots Park renovations and resurfacing project is scheduled to be completed by May 2, 2024; however, the exact reopening date is subject to change depending on inclement weather or should other unforeseen circumstances arise.
Following the completion of Patriots Park’s renovations, the resurfacing project will then commence at Lonnie Morris Park and Riverside Park tennis courts.
“These undertakings aim to enhance the facilities and ensure an optimal playing experience for the tennis community,” stated the county press release.
The project will last at Lonnie Morris Park and Riverside Park tennis courts for approximately 120 days, with a tentative start date depending on when renovations are completed at Patriots Park.
The exact closing and reopening dates for both parks will be officially announced to the community at a later date pending the progress of the county’s resurfacing projects at all locations.
During the closure of both Lonnie Morris Park and Riverside Park tennis courts, located in Appling at 2511 Scotts Ferry Road and Evans at 1 Dolphin Way, community members are encouraged by the county to visit other surrounding tennis courts within the area.
