Columbia County officials are advising drivers of multiple upcoming lane closures due to ongoing road construction projects. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, expect delays and use alternate routes when possible.
Beginning Monday, April 28, the eastbound lane at 5001 Gateway Blvd. will be temporarily closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Friday, May 30.
The closure, conducted in cooperation with GLM Construction Company, is necessary to accommodate road construction activities, according to a press release from Columbia County.
Meanwhile, a separate lane closure is scheduled on Hardy McManus Road at the intersection of Sam Baston Drive. The closure will be in effect from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. starting Wednesday, April 23, through Friday, May 2.
Columbia County is partnering with E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. for this project.
Additionally, intermittent lane closures are planned on Lewiston Road between Columbia Road and the Interstate 20 Diverging Diamond Interchange for concrete work related to a roadway widening project.
These closures will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily beginning Monday, April 28, through Friday, May 9.
Drivers approaching any of these work zones are urged to slow down, maintain extra distance between vehicles, watch for advance warning signs, obey road crew flaggers and remain alert for unexpected changes.
Weather conditions may affect the construction schedules.
Columbia County officials also recommend allowing extra time for commutes and considering alternate routes during these periods of roadwork.
