Columbia County Board of Commissioners honors Al Dempsey

The Columbia County Board of Commissioners honored Al Dempsey during the meeting on Tuesday, March 5.

Dempsey, who passed away on Jan. 23, was greatly involved in the community. District 1 Commissioner Connie Melear presented a proclamation in honor Dempsey to his family

“Al was a servant leader and invested his time in the county he loved; and WHEREAS, In 1981 Al was elected to the Columbia County Board of Commissioners and went

on to serve two terms, several years of which he served as Chairman; and WHEREAS, Al also volunteered his time and services on County Boards and Committees to which

he was appointed, including most recently the Board of Health and Planning Commission; and WHEREAS, Al will long be remembered as a loyal and dedicated man by all who had the great fortune of knowing him,” the proclamation read in part.

Melear added that Dempsey was a special person to many people in the room, including the community and elected officials who came out to offer their support to the family.

The Board of Commissioners also approved the first reading of a resolution setting the fees for The Market. Deputy County Manager Glenn Kennedy said the rental fee would be $125 for a minimum of four hours, with a $200 non-refundable cleaning fee.
