The Columbia County Board of Commissioners recognized the Columbia County Animal Services staff for receiving the Animal Services Agency of the Year from the Georgia Animal Control Association at the meeting on March 19.
“Thank you all for being here tonight and on behalf of the Board of Commissioners, we just want to thank you for all your hard work and dedication to excellence in Columbia County,” said Board of Commissioners District 4 Representative Alison Couch. “We know that you put in a lot of time and a lot of effort to make sure that our community is well taken care of. We appreciate you all so very much and congratulate you on your award for Animal Services Agency of the Year. This is a very prestigious award, and we are very proud.”
Animal Services Manager Linda Glasscock also thanked the staff members for their hard work and dedication to the county.

The Board of Commissioners also approved resolution 24-17 regarding a bond resolution adopted by the Columbia County Public Facilities Authority authorizing the issuance of its series 2024 bonds, intergovernmental contract with the PFA and the county and authorizing the issuance and delivery of the bonds.
“This is a bond resolution that has actually been forwarded to the Board of Commissioners from the Public Facilities Authority,” said County Manager Scott Johnson. “The Public Facilities Authority voted early today to issue these bonds. This is a situation, we’ve been following this in Columbia County where Columbia County is taking advantage of today’s interest rates, we’re able to deposit money at a very good rate and then we’re able to bond these projects and we were able to get a borrowing rate, so to speak, at 2.62, which is very good with our Triple A credit rating.”
The bonds will not exceed $80 million and the projects listed in exhibit A in the intergovernmental contract are demolition of existing Building A at the Evans Government Center and the construction of a replacement Building A, renovation of the current senior center, construction of a new perfomring arts support facility, preservation and restoration of the Pollard House for use as a community center, renovation of Savannah Rapids Pavilion, renovation of Euchee Creek Library for a senior center and early voting facility, construction of a new Patriots Park administration building, construction of a new training facility for Columbia County Fire Rescue and construction of new fire stations.
