The Columbia County Board of Commissioners has a lot on the agenda for its meeting on Tuesday, April 18.

The agenda calls for commissioners to approve the appointment of District 4 Commissioner Alison Couch to the Fort Gordon Regional Growth Management Plan Implementation Group and deputy county Manager Glenn Kennedy as an alternate.

Andy Crosson, the executive director for the Central Savannah River Area Regional Commission, said the commission recently completed a growth management implementation plan for Fort Gordon. The plan was an analysis of the transportation and socio-demographic needs in the CSRA area to support the continued growth of Fort Gordon.

Under the debate agenda is resolution 23-19, which states the Columbia County Board of Education is requesting the collection and levy of an annual ad valorem tax for the general obligation bonds, series 2023 ff sales tax is insufficient for the Columbia County School District.

According to the agenda document, in 2019 the voters of the Columbia County School District authorized issuing general obligation bonds for $160,000,000 for providing funds to pay part of the cost of the capital outlay projects. In 2020, General Obligation Bonds, Series 2020 for $52,670,000 were issued by the Board of Education.

“The Board of Education now wishes to issue the remainder of the bonds in the amount of $107.3 million. If the money is not satisfied from the proceeds of the sales and use tax, the Board of Education will implement a property tax increase to cover the difference. Like all tax increases by the Board of Education, this must be approved by the Board of Education,” the agenda document states.

The staff is recommending approval of this resolution.

The board will also consider resolution 23-15, which would create a “no parking” zone on Bellewood Drive from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. According to the agenda document, parents whose kids are attending Augusta Cheer Academy are parking along Bellewood Drive in the right of way, and at times stopping residents from having clear access to their driveways.

The staff is recommending approval of this resolution.

The Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18 in the Evans Government Center auditorium.
