The Columbia County Board of Commissioners will discuss the fiscal year 2025-2026 budget on Tuesday, June 3.

The approval of the budget follows an elected official’s budget workshop, department head budget workshop and public budget hearing, all of which were held earlier this year. According to the agenda document, county staff was told to balance the budget using a zero-based budgeting method with no new programs and no property tax increases unless the Board of Commissioners authorizes.

“When initial budget requests were received, revenues exceeded expenditures (with no contingency fund) within the General Fund by $942,522. Based on further analysis and discussions with County staff and elected officials, projected revenues within the General Fund were increased by $3,253,565 and projected expenditures were increased by $1,135,971, to result in a balanced General Fund budget of $103,897,833, including a contingency fund of $3,060,116. A summary of these changes is attached. All other funds are balanced as well. Therefore, the fiscal year 2025/2026 proposed budget for Columbia County, GA is presented tonight for adoption by the BOC,” according to the agenda document

Staff is recommending approval.
