The Columbia County Board of Commissioners will hear a rezoning request for properties at the intersection of Lewiston Road and Autumn Trail.

The applicants are asking to rezone 426 Lewiston Road and 5136 Autumn Trail, two tracts totaling 3.24 acres, from General Commercial (C-2) and Single-family Residential (R-1) to Community Commercial (C-C). They are proposing to put a bank and restaurant at that location, with the concept plan showing the restaurant as an Olive Garden and a drive-thru bank.

According to the recommendation sheet, the staff is recommending approval with the following conditions from planning and traffic engineering:

  • All the conditions of approval for RZ16-11-04, except conditions 1 and 4, shall still apply.
  • Architectural finishes and building materials shall include a combination of brick, stone, and stucco. Metal may be used as a roofing material. Any appeal of staff’s decision regarding materials may be made to the Individual freestanding signs shall be limited to an overall height of 8 feet and constructed of materials matching the proposed buildings. Two individual freestanding signs are permitted for the development, one per road frontage.
  • Both parcels shall be served by a single shared driveway from Autumn Trail. The existing Lewiston Road access to 426 Lewiston Road shall serve both parcels.
  • The driveway on Autumn Trail must align with the existing commercial development at 433 Autumn Trail

The Columbia County Planning Commission recommended approval of the request at the March 6 meeting.

Under the consent agenda is resolution 25-10, which is asking the state delegation to create and submit local legislation that would increase the homestead exemption from $2,000 to $10,000 for Columbia County.

The Columbia County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at the Evans Government Center Complex. For more information, visit columbiacountyga.gov.
