The Columbia County Board of Commissioners will recognize the Greenbrier High School girls golf team during the meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 1.

Commissioners will present a proclamation to the team for its 2023 state championship win. This is the first win for the team in its 27-year history.

“Whereas, this victory was the culmination of a season of hard work, exemplary sportsmanship and teamwork among this group of young women; and Whereas, Columbia County celebrates the 2023 winning title of 5A State Champions for the girls golf team and wishes to honor them for their leadership, hard work, and athleticism; and Whereas, the entire coaching staff, team parents, faculty, student body, and loyal fans were an integral part in bringing the team to victory through their unwavering support,” the proclamation states.

Commissioners will discuss a request from Ridge Road Bait and Tackle for an alcoholic beverage license. The item was postponed from the July 18 meeting due to the applicant needing time to reconsider his request for on premise and off premise consumption. The applicant, Michael Roberson, is requesting to sell beer, wine and distilled spirits for on premise consumption, according to the agenda document.

A reconsideration for a variance to sections 90-147(g)(10)(b) use provisions, off Columbia Road, off Lewiston Road and 120 Lewiston Road to allow for 24-hour operation of a proposed convenience store with gas pumps is also on the agenda. The variance was originally presented at the July 18 Board of Commissioners meeting, but it was denied. The staff is recommending approval, with conditions, for the request.

Commissioners will discuss a conditional use for massage request for 4158 Washington Road suite 10. According to the agenda document, the massage will only be allowed in one suite on the subject property.

The Columbia County Board of Commissioners will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at the Evans Government Center complex. The full agenda can be found at columbiacountyga.gov.
