Columbia County Board of Elections approves resolution for District 2 race

The Columbia County Board of Elections approved a resolution calling for a special election on Nov. 4 to fill the Columbia County District 2 seat. 

The need for a special election comes after Trey Allen resigned the position to take a job with the Trump Administration. 

Qualifying for the special election will start Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 9 a.m. and end on Friday, Aug. 29 at noon. For more information on qualifying, reach out to the Columbia County Board of Elections at 706-868-3355. The qualifying fee is $195.

Possible candidates

Even though qualifying hasn’t started, some people have expressed interested in running. Jim Sneed recently resigned from the Columbia County Planning Commission so he could run for the District 2 Commission seat, according to County Manager Scott Johnson during the Management and Internal Services Committee meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 12. 

Howard Johnson announced during the public comment portion of the Columbia County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 19 that he is planning to run for the District 2 Commission seat.
