The Columbia County Board of Elections is proposing some precinct changes.

Executive Director Nancy Gay said the Board of Elections is proposing splitting the voters at Precinct 070/Blanchard Park and dividing them between Precincts 076/Westminster Presbyterian and Precinct 085/Trinity Baptist Church. This would result is dissolving 070 due to the facility becoming difficult to use due to its age and size.

The board is proposing to move voters who currently use Precinct 105/Savannah Rapids Pavilion and combining them with Precinct 109/Stevens Creek Community Church, Gay said. This change is due to Savannah Rapids Pavilion being damaged during Hurricane Helene.

Also proposed is moving voters from Precinct 120/Harvest Pointe Church and combining them with 065/Christ Sanctified Holy Church. Gay said the board was notified by Harvest Pointe that they are moving from the current location on Belair Road to another one across the county.

The county is proposing to combine precincts 020/Harlem Branch Library and 022/Harlem Senior Center into one location at Harlem Baptist Church. Gay added the board needs to confirm with the church that the electrical needs to run the voting equipment will work, so this change is still in the beginning stage.

Gay said the board is checking with the other voting locations to see if there are any issues that would require more changes. The plan is to give the public time to voice their opinions on the changes and then take a vote in either March or April ahead of the statewide special primary election in June.
