The Columbia County Board of Elections received an update on list maintenance that was conducted by the Georgia Secretary of State’s office over the summer.

Nancy Gay, the executive director for the Columbia County Board of Election, told board members the SOS was conducting the list maintenance to move voters from active to inactive and from inactive to cancelled. For Columbia County 9,429 confirmation notices were sent out to voters who were going to be moved to the cancelled status. Out of those, 9,277 voters were moved to a cancelled status by the SOS. Columbia County moved some voters due to multiple reasons, including the person being deceased or having moved. This brought the number of voters moved off the Columbia County voter list to 9,471.

For the Nov. 4 election, advanced voting will be Oct. 14-31, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 18 and Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be two advanced voting locations, the G3 Building in Evans and the former Euchee Creek Library in Grovetown.

The absentee by mail application period will continue until Oct. 24 and the absentee by mail mailing period is Oct. 14-24. The voter registration deadline is Oct. 6.

The next Board of Elections meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Board of Elections office.
