Columbia County CES Committee approves moving forward with proclamation honoring Al Dempsey

The Columbia County Community and Emergency Services Committee approved moving forward with a proclamation in remembrance of Al Dempsey.

“Al was our planning chair, and also served as a commissioner in the 80’s and also worked on our Board of Health, has been very involved in Columbia County,” said County Manger Scott Johnson. 

Committee Chair and commission board member Alison Couch thanked Commissioner Connie Melear for bringing the proclamation forward.

“Al was a great friend to Columbia County and to me, and he is very missed,” Couch said.

The proclamation will be presented at the March 5 Columbia County Board of Commissioners meeting. 

The committee also approved moving forward with the appointment of William Speer to the Columbia County Library Board to replace Russell Wilder, who resigned to run for the House District 131 race. 

The CES Committee also approved moving Resolution 24-10, which establishes the rentals fees for The Market, to the debate agenda. There would be a $125 an hour fee for a minimum of four hours, along with a $200 non-refundable cleaning fee. 

The Columbia County Public Works and Engineering Services Committee approved moving forward with Resolution 24-11 and a project delivery agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation for the resurfacing of Evans to Locks Road, Blackstone Camp Road, Blue Ridge Drive, Harlem Grovetown Road, Blanchard Road, Columbia Industrial Blvd., Halali Farm Road, Industrial Park Drive, Oak Street North, Old Trail Rod East (Columbia County portion), Old Trail Road West, Pleasant Home Road, Roswell Drive and Southern Pines Drive.
